Facilitating Change Management: Essential Tools, Strategy, & More

Course description:

This course is designed to build capacity in facilitating specific group facilitation tools for change management. Building on extensive research and practice, proven principles of change readiness are incorporated through an experiential learning process of demonstration and facilitation practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Introduce the four common, integrated change management steps\
  2. Discuss facilitation tools for each of the four steps: assessing, planning, implementing, anchoring
  3. Evaluate the purpose for the tools (for convergent and divergent thinking--expanding and narrowing purposes) within the four steps for change management
  4. Develop a change management strategy/approach based on the scope of change and impact
  5. Practice facilitating the tools for the four steps
  6. Prepare a facilitation plan as a guide for practice that incorporates rational and experiential objectives, meeting agenda, process agenda, materials, time allotment
  7. Describe the role of a facilitator in managing change
  8. Prepare a longer-range change management facilitation plan based on a scenario provided
  9. Use a scenario/case study as a basis for strategy development and change management planning, and identify steps that can be taken with communications, training, and leadership and more to strengthen change readiness.

Trainer Bios:

L. Melanie Chase, PhD

L. “Melanie” Chase works with organizations and communities to engage and involve stakeholders in decision making and solution finding. Since 1996, Melanie has worked with diverse groups and organizations across sectors as an organization development/change management/performance improvement consultant and advisor, coach, trainer and facilitator. Her experience spans across sectors in healthcare, public health, high-tech, utilities, government, education, nonprofits, across small organizations to large, complex systems. She brings a collaborative consulting style, integrity, focus, humor, mindfulness and results to the people she serves.

She earned a Ph.D. in education with a concentration in organizational development, Master of Public Administration, and a B.S. in sociology, from Colorado and Arizona State Universities respectively. She has received extensive training in mediation and facilitation from City of Beaverton, Oregon, Dispute Resolution Center; Portland Community College, American Society for Quality, Institute for Cultural Affairs and ToP Methods; Assn. for Quality & Participation, International Association for Public Participation, Human Centered Design (IDEO) and others.

 

Ann S. Epps, MA,CPF and IAF CPF Assessor

Ann is one of the originators of the Technology of Participation, ToP process used internationally by consultants and facilitators to support participatory leadership processes. Ann has served as facilitator, consultant, and trainer to numerous organizations in Singapore, Europe, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Indonesia, North America and Malaysia in the areas of facilitator training, creative and strategic thinking, customer service, team building, communications, leadership development, and organizational change.

Prior to joining LENS International (M) Sdn Bhd, she served as manager, marketing research and planning for a multinational manufacturer headquartered in Chicago and was a university lecturer at SMU, Dallas. Ann is a certified Total Quality Management Consultant, an IAF Certified Professional Facilitator and Assessor of Facilitators applying for certification, as well as a contributing author to the book: "Participation Works: Business Case Studies from around the World." Ann is a founding member of the International Association of Facilitators (IAF).
